Call for Presentation Proposals

With support from the College of Arts and Sciences and various language programs and centers at Indiana University, Bloomington, the Center for Language Technology (CeLT) will host the fifth World Language Festival (WLF) on October 6th 2018 in Bloomington, IN. All faculty, AIs and FLTAs at IU are welcome to submit a proposal. Presentations fall under three categories:

• Presentation for Students

• Presentation for Teachers/Parents

• Performance

PRESENTATION FOR STUDENTS

We are looking for 40 sessions for middle and high school students, their teachers and parents, interested in getting to know a new language or culture. These sessions should be 30 minutes long (including warming up and closing), focusing on audience participation. Hands on activities are encouraged, too. Any language can be included. There are four types of student sessions, but not limited to these:

•Language Learning

•Cross Culture Awareness

•Music, Dance, Film, and Arts

•Language-Culture Hybrid

When necessary, we may ask one session to be presented multiple times to meet audience needs. We will also encourage parents to sit in such sessions. If you have presented in the past events, you are welcome to re-present the same content, with any necessary updated information.

PRESENTATION FOR TEACHERS AND PARENTS

We are looking for 3-5 teacher and/or parent sessions of 30 minutes long in the form of a presentation or a workshop. Content should focus on language pedagogy, creating language learning environment at home, or any related topic useful to teachers or parents

Selection Standards:

1. Relevant to the event theme

2. The session has the potential to engage participants

3. It is possible to complete within 30 minutes

PERFORMANCE REQUEST

Beyond presentation sessions, we are also looking for 3-4 exceptional performance sessions (dancing, music, etc.) that relate to languages and cultures for the Opening ceremony. Please contact wlf@indiana.edu directly for consideration with subject title "WLF 2018 Performance."
